Our shea butter is sourced from socially and economically disadvantaged women in Ghana. As part of our fair trade commitment we pay above market prices directly to the women – no middleman. Natural Shea Care was founded in Addo’s basement in 2016 as a part time business to produce our original True Shea Butter product. This enabled him to give back to the struggling women of Ghana that worked tirelessly to produce shea butter to provide for their families. Due to his full-time commit at GE, he would spend nights, weekends, holidays, and vacations in whipping and packaging shea butter in his basement. The greasy nature of shea butter permanently destroyed the floor and wall of his basement during this process. His initial marketing campaign was word of mouth by spending his nights, weekends, holidays, and vacations selling shea butter at churches, festivals, flea markets, and picnics in the Cincinnati and Columbus area. Now True Shea is available in over 1,300 Kroger, Target.com, and Amazon! Manny Addo is the CEO of Cincinnati-based Natural Shea Care (NSC). NSC is a black-owned, natural beauty care company with a mission of supporting & empowering the women of Ghana where our shea butter is sourced. Currently, NSC products are available across the United States including Kroger, Target.com, Amazon, and Jungle Jim’s International Market.
