Midnight to Live

Olivia Guterson is a self-taught, multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Detroit, MI. In 2020, she curated her first exhibition, The Space Between at the Ann Arbor Art Center. She presently is a resident at Sibyls Shrine, AS220’s Practice//Practice, and McArthur Binion’s Modern Ancient Brown. Her work has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Arab American National Museum and more. Primarily through black ink, my compositions are deeply personal investigations of truth influenced by geometric abstraction, remembrance, ancestral patterns and their relation to the natural world. The intricate layerings in my work reveal my inner knowings that exist beyond written language. Often sourcing from the visions and wisdom unearthed through the repetitive, meditative process of creating my work, what the viewer is left with might be evidence of my soul’s existence or the secrets from my altered state of consciousness.
